  angellic crowd

I don’t know the reason why those preternatural critters, downy angels and demons materialized in the bat cave of my imagination. To answer that question one would have to have an academic background in religious studies and the paranormal combined. Suffice it to say, for some inexplicable reason, they surfaced, not as text, but as visual delights on acid-free drawing paper.

I can, perhaps indulge in a modest soupcon of flaming imagination, and say that my unconscious is reminding me of my mortality, and that the angels, serving as messengers from the Beyond, are telling me that the Reaper has hot eyes for me. But here I am doing something that I have warned other creative writers, not to do: ask questions as to why am I creating, or critiquing, and taking apart my poem, drawing and even a painting. The angels and demons came into being because they had to.

Now a demon or daemon can be bipolar, benevolent or downright malevolent, depending on the cultural environment. Angels generally are not seen in a bad light. I certainly try to give them parity in my drawings, although my bias favors the angels. The demons are generally benign in my visual window, and yet my cat angel, or angels in fur have fearsome expressions, as though they have just lunched on the proverbial mine songbird.

I ask the viewer not to be hastily judgmental, but beg that you view my angels and demons, note how they coexist peacefully together on the same drawing -- complete with my zesty zeitgeist. Enjoy.
